Documentation

To capture all that goes unnoticed through the medium of photography. This would be a common goal of any documentary/street photographer. Personally, it feels similar to  a quota that I am compelled to fill but it seems it can never be so. Taking the time to slow down and look unto my environment, I continually see small or large communities, places and cultures that most people in today’s society never had a chance or choose to look upon. I have a urge to explore and share these things with people who have no idea that they exist. Picking up my camera and clicking away in the streets, capturing raw and untethered objects and people. I get a sense of justice for these places and people, that may have no way of representing themselves to people outside their own circles. I simply want awareness brought on by my work done with a camera, film and a photo.

Two basic question I would want to be come up when viewing my work: “Who are they?” or “What is this place?” To have people think more than just what affects them in their daily life, but that there are people and places outside of their general background that exist. I couldn’t put it any better than Robert Frank said “When people look at my pictures I want them to feel the way they do when they want to read a line of a poem twice.” I want that double-take that people need to realize what they are looking at, and go onto knowing that they are not alone or there are places and people that grow beyond normal human life.

“I want a woman who can sit me down, shut me up, tell me ten things I don’t already know, and make me laugh. I don’t care what you look like, just turn me on. And if you can do that, I will follow you on bloody stumps through the snow. I will nibble your mukluks with my own teeth. I will do your windows. I will care about your feelings. Just have something in there.” - Henry Rollins
